The second Continuing Optometric Education 2014 – Nethra Vidya series by The Sankara Nethralaya Academy was conducted at the Sri VD Swami Auditorium, KN BIRVO Block on 4th May 2014. A total of 30 participants attended the session on “Modern trends in IOL Power Calculation. The sessions were conducted by senior Optometry faculty Ms. A Vijayalakshmi, Mrs. Jayasree Ramanan, Ms. Monica and Ms. Yamuna Devi. The program started with a welcome address by Anuja R Singh, Head of Optometry Programs, TSNA, followed by highly educative sessions on performing biometry, IOL Power calculation, calculating IOLs in the paediatric age group and in post refractive surgery patients. Ms. Vijayalakshmi, Sr. Manager Optometry had the audience in splits when she conducted the session on Evolution of cataract surgery and IOL, fun facts and presenting pictures of cataract surgery being performed, circa 100 BC. The afternoon saw the participants attending a live hands-on session on performing contact and non contact biometry, topography and pentacam.
The participants were all praise for the in-depth knowledge and dedication shown by the faculty in helping them understand the nuances involved in performing and understanding the various complex formulae. The faculty made sure the sessions were lively and interactive and not stiff and formal.
