Andhra Bank, among India’s fast growing nationalized banks with a countrywide presence stepped into its 90th year of operation on the 29th of November 2012. The significance of the day was captured by the opening of 90 branches and 90 ATM’s all over the country. As an institution with a strong social commitment, the bank decided to mark the special day with an act of ‘giving back to society’. The Zonal Manager, Chennai Shri C.Doraswamy accompanied by Shri S.Ramanathan, Deputy Manager (PR) visited Sankara Nethralaya on the 90th foundation Day and presented a significant amount to the institution, the cheque was received by Dr S.Bhaskaran, Chairman and Dr SS.Badrinath, Chairman Emeritus, Sankara Nethralaya. The senior bank executives were profusely thanked by the senior management members and honoured with a shawl and presented with a copy of ‘Insight’ a biography of Sankara Nethralaya.
Speaking on the occasion Shri Doraswamy expressed his delight at the opportunity to participate in Sankara Nethralaya’s noble social initiative, he observed that this was a good beginning and as the CSR budget for the bank had just been allotted they could explore more funding opportunities in the future. Dr S.Bhaskaran recalled that Andhra Bank was the first official banker to Sankara Nethralaya as the Medical Research Foundation had its first account with it when Shri V.Mohan Rao was its President and his good friend Shri Krishna Rao was a senior official with the bank, he added that the bank had made a significant donation during this time. Dr SS.Badrinath gave a brief of the activities of Sankara Nethralaya, its branches and its future plans, he reminisced that his father Sengamedu Srinivasa Rao who served as a civil engineer with the erstwhile Madras Presidency was involved in the construction of the Andhra Bank’s first branch in Chennai at Parry’s.
The meeting ended on a positive note with Dr SS.Badrinath inviting the Andhra bank to be the Sri Srinivasa Sankara Nethralaya’s brand ambassador.
