Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India conducted a one day workshop on Regional Institutes of Ophthalmology and Major Eye Banks of India. This was hosted by Sankara Nethralaya on Feb 20, ’08. Dr R K Srivatsava, Director General of Health Services, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India, New Delhi inaugurated the worshop and delivered the key note address. Dr (Mrs) R Jose Addl, Direrctor General of Health service, Govt. of India, New Delhi was the Guest of Honor. Dr T S Surendran, vice chairman, Sankara Nethralaya welcomed the gathering. Most of the participants of the workshop gave presentations on eye banking and activities of Regional Institutes of Ophthalmology in the country. Dr A S Rathore, Additional Director General (Ophthalmology), Govt. of India, New Delhi delivered his lecture on Status of Regional Institute of Ophthalmology in India (RIO) and started the discussion forum. The Directors of Regional Institutes of Ophthalmology from various parts of the country shared their views and suggestions about the RIOS. The suggestions and recommendation were forwarded to the National Programme on Control of Blindness, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India, New Delhi and Dr Rathore (ADGH – New Delhi) assured that he will do his best for the same.
