Sankara Nethralaya, a unit of Medical Research Foundation commenced its OPD services on 11.02.2008 at R S Falor General Hospital & Maternity Centre, Goswami Mutt, Rameswaram. To commemorate the inauguration, a Homam was performed at 5.30 am. Mrs & Mr Falor (Board Member, Vision Research Foundation), Mrs & Dr Anand B Jaypuriya (Consultant Ophthalmologist, SN Rameswaram), Dr Lingam Gopal (Chairman, Medical Research Foundation) and other well-wishers participated in the Homam.
A public function was held in the evening. Lamp was lit by Sri Vedantam Managing Trustee, Goswami Mutt and others. Invocation song (Veda Gosham) was rendered by Vedic scholars of Sri Ramanathaswamy temple and various mutts in Rameswaram. Sri Vedantam has presided over the function. Dr Lingam Gopal delivered the welcome address; Dr S S Badrinath (President, Medical Research Foundation) spoke about Sankara Nethralaya and the genesis of this project and formally expressed his gratitude to all concerned especially to Sri & Smt Falor. Sri & Smt Falor , Dr S Kalyanaraman (President, Swami Vivekananda Medical Mission), Sri Ashok Goyal and Sri Manohar Bhagadia (Trustees, Goswami Mutt) were felicitated. Sri Vedantam stressed on the importance of vision and Sankara Nethralaya, the need for quality eye care in Rameswaram and Goswami Mutt’s interest in ensuring it. This function was well attended by people from Rameswaram and nearby villages and also representatives from various Mutts at Rameswaram.
