A soulful performance by Hiren Parpani and his troupe from Mumbai brought to life the leelas of Radha and Krishna in the ‘City of joy’. Sathavaro Radhe Shyamno, a benefit dance drama, in aid of Sankara Nethralaya, was held at the Science City Auditorium in Kolkata, on April 2 & 3, 2011.
Considering the growing demand to provide quality eye care services to the entire eastern region, the West Bengal Government has allotted four acres at Rajar Haat to Sankara Nethralaya for setting up its new super specialty eye care institution. The dance drama was held to raise funds for the institution’s new venture.
The new 2 lakh sq.ft. super specialty institution will offer all sub specialities of ophthalmology and will also serve as a recognized academic institution offering e-learning courses as well as training programmes in various fields including nursing and optometry.
West Bengal Governor Shri MK Narayanan, who graced the occasion as chief guest on April 2, welcomed Sankara Nethralaya’s plans to expand its services in West Bengal.West Bengal Transportation Secretary Shri. Rajpal Singh Kahlor was the Chief Guest on April 3. Dr. Tarun Sharma, Director, Fund-raising, spoke on the growth of Sankara Nethralaya and on the institution’s fund-raisinginitiatives. This is Hiren Parpani and his troupe’s second performance for Sankara Nethralaya.
