The Sankara Nethralaya Academy Conducts the 5th Nethra Vidya Series Session On Binocular Vision And Vision Therapy

As an institution in the forefront of Sankara Nethralaya’s real time teaching and training initiatives the Sankara Nethralaya Academy had launched the ‘Continuing Optometric Education Program’ back in 2010. The same was revived, enhanced, aptly renamed as ‘Nethra Vidhya’- A Continuing Optometric Education Progam- 2014’and re – launched recently with great enthusiasm and successfully conducted 4 sessions so far.

The fifth session on “Demystifying the Near vision complex – A simple approach to practicing Binocular vision” was conducted at the V.D.Swami Auditorium on 12th October 2014 with a record number of 80 participants, practicing Optometrists and students from various parts of India. The curtain raiser and promotional launch of EIVOC 2015 was also the salient feature of this session.

The session started with a highly motivational video played by Ms. Jameel Rizwana, Incharge – Binocualr vision Clinic on how to savour each and every moment be it work or play or family life. This was followed by several informative and highly engaging sessions on Diagnosis of Binocular vision problems  and Prescibing prisms by Senior Optometrist Ms. Revathy, Diplopia – Make it Single by Ms. Rizwana. The sessions were made highly interactive by splitting the participants into several groups and live demonstration and procedures by members of the BV team.

The highlight of the event was the Panel session which consisted of topics that are highly relevant in today’s Optometric Practice. The key speakers were Dr. Krishnakumar – Principal (Elite School of Optometry) who held a lively session on “Binocular vision and Occupational visual demands – what you need to know?” and Mr. S.Viswanathan – Deputy General Manager – Optometry & Opticals on “Myopia control – where do we stand?” Ms. Revathy introduced the audience to the concepts of Neuro Optometry.

The highly informative 8 hour workshop concluded with the distribution of certificates to the participants.
