A highly touched and moved Badrinaths see an extension of their ‘dream turning into reality’ at Gujarat on their visit to the ‘Drashti Nethralaya’ located in the deep and remote tribal settlements of Gujarat!

Drashti Nethralaya

Dr SS.Badrinath and Dr Vasanthi Badrinath made a trip to Gujarat to visit a place very close to their heart, a place inspired by their institution and governed by the same lofty principles of service and sacrifice. The Drashti Nethralaya which they were visiting is a fruit of the passion, dedication and sacrifice of a highly motivated and idealistic doctor couple Dr Mehul Shah and Dr Shreya Shah serving the poorest of the poor patients living in the second biggest tribal region of the country. Dr Mehul Shah had done his Fellowship in vitreo retina at Sankara Nethralaya, he was highly inspired by his Alma Mater and wanted to set up a similar facility functioning on the same principles at his native Dahod in Gujarat which is not served by the most basic Medicare. It was a great challenge and the young doctor received the total support and cooperation of his wife Dr Shreya Shah, the couple  proved singlehandedly that where there is a strong will there is always a way. The Drashti Nethralaya treats 80% of its patients totally cost free and has evolved special techniques to deliver high quality eye care to the tribals

The selfless service being rendered by this young couple to the have-nots at considerable cost to their own life style, comfort and well being highly impressed and moved Dr SS.Badrinath and he observed in the visitor’s book ‘All of us have dreams and we are most happy when these dreams are fulfilled, today I stand in front of the Drashti Nethralaya most happy with my dreams fulfilled. Thirukural the ancient Tamil treatise on life and the principles of living says that nothing can be more joyous to parents than the moment when their children achieve greatness and are recognized by the world and this was a moment of pride to the parents of the institute (Sankara Nethralaya) which inspired the young doctors into creating the Drashti Nethralaya

I have pleasure of being a fellow of sankara nethralaya and knowing both dr. Badrinath and Dr. Mehul Shah very well. Dr. Mehul Shah is a replica of Dr. Badrinath like him tall in his work and comittement to the society, unlike him short in physical height. May both dr. Badrinath and Dr. Mehul live longer.
