VIBS training programme evokes enthusiastic response

The hands on summer training programme conducted by the Vidyasagar Institute of Bio Medical Sciences at the Medical Research Foundation between 13th May and 10th June 2011 gave participating students the much needed, real-time and beyond the classroom insight into their subjects of specialization. A total of 9 trainee students from colleges across the State and 2 from Maharashtra underwent intensive training in Biochemistry, Genetics and Biology under the expert guidance of senior faculty members at the Institute. The success of the programme could be gauged by the high scores of students in their respective subjects in the evaluation conducted at the end of the programme and was also evident in their upbeat feed back on their experience, expressed at the valedictory function held on 10th June 2011.

Faculty members who conducted the training expressed that the high level of involvement of the participants made the sessions highly interactive and informative which helped in bringing out the best results. The participants (2 in biochemistry, 3 in genetics and 6 in microbiology) from leading educational institutions across the State like the Vellore Institute of Technology University, Vellore; Women’s Christian College, Loyola College and Sree Balaji Dental College Chennai; Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences Pondicherry and Shri Vasantrao Naik Government Medical College, Maharashtra would now move up the learning curve of their classmates and juniors by sharing the rich knowledge and real-time experience gained at the VIBS training programme with them.

Dr H.N Madhavan, President Vision Research Foundation, who is also the Director and Professor of Microbiology addressed the gathering at the valedictory function and awarded the training completion certificates to the participants.

The Vidyasagar Institute of Biomedical Sciences is the vision and cherished dream of its founder Padma Shri Iravatham Mahadevan, a retired Civil Servant who served with distinction in the Indian Administrative Services, support and co-operation from the Medical Research Foundation helped transform this dream into a reality. We take this opportunity to thank both of them for providing this wonderful opportunity to impart critical, hands on training to Post Graduate students across multiple disciplines.
