As part of the Avicenna Leadership programme, aimed at looking to the social and economic shifts which profoundly affect organizations and leadership, a delegation of Dutch entrepreneurs, senior executives of companies in the public and private sector and researchers interacted with a team from Sankara Nethralaya on January 14, 2010.
Dr. Lingam Gopal, Director, Research and senior vitreo retinal consultant, Sankara Nethralaya, made a presentation detailing the initiatives undertaken by Sankara Nethralaya in mitigating the burden of blindness in the country and briefed the participants on the institute’s activities in research, human resources and community activities.
Keeping with the theme of the module, which revolved around Gandhian values, Dr. Gopal shared with the delegates the Gandhian values of selfless service and dedication that doctors and employees at Nethralaya adhere to.
Struck by the magnitude of the problems that a country like India faces, the delegation welcomed Nethralaya’s initiative of “going to people to provide treatment rather than waiting for them to come.”
Describing Sankara Nethralaya’s presentation as “innovative and creative,” the group lauded Sankara Nethralaya’s continued efforts in providing world-class eye care to people. The institute’s principle of “treating all its employees equally,” drew praise from the delegates.
