On 24th August 2008, a continuing medical education programme organized by the Department of Anaesthesiology, Medical Research Foundation, was held at Residency Towers, Chennai, dedicated to the memory of Dr V G Appukutty called “an Insight View”. Prof Chris Dodds and Prof Chandra M Kumar from the UK were the international faculty. Other faculty members were Dr M M Sharma from Aditya Jyot Eye Hospital , Mumbai, Dr Ravichandran from Aravind Eye Hospital, Maduari and Dr Michael Sekar from Eye Foundation, Coimbatore also participated along with Dr VV Jaichandran from Dept of Anaesthesiology, Sankara Nethralaya. The CME was attended by postgraduates in anaesthesia and ophthalmology from various institutions in and around Chennai and also from neighbouring states and was well attended.
In the evening of 24th August 2008 a public function was held in relation to the dedication ceremony of 23rd August 2008. The function was presided over by Major General Kocchaken, General Officer Commanding Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Karnataka States, The Chief Guest for the evening was Prof Chris Dodds of James Cook University, UK. The special guest of honour was Mr Bharathy, Chairman, Alandur Muncipality. Among those who felicitated Dr V G Appukutty were Dr Vardarajan, Vascular Surgeon, Dr BS Santhavadanan, Paediatric Surgeon, Dr K Balakrishnan, Retd Prof of Anaesthesiology, Madras Medical College, Dr S Ramesh, Consultant Paediatric Anaesthesiologist, KKTCH, our Chairman Emeritus Dr S S Badrinath and Dr Tagore, President of the Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists. Mrs V G Appukutty was also felicitated by members of SWAN, Dr Vasanthi Badrinath, Ms Surekha Mehta and Mrs Sudha Haridas. The invitees for the evening’s programme included well wishers of Nethralaya, the city’s elite and employees of Sankara Nethralaya.
