Sankara Nethralaya Pays Rich Tributes to a Visionary

20th Sri V Venugopal Endowment Lecture

It was a day to commemorate the memory of its futurist, who laid a strong foundation for fortifying the pillars of Sankara Nethralaya and continue its dynamic march to alleviate blindness.

The 20th Sri V Venugopal Endowment Lecture held at Sri V D Swami Auditorium on 7th November 2015 witnessed an enthusiastic gathering including members of Sri Venugopal’s family, Board Members of Medical and Vision Research Foundation, Consultants, Well wishers, staff of Sankara Nethralaya and jubilant children of employees chosen to receive their scholarship to pursue higher studies from the Dhingra Trust.

The function began with a mellifluous rendition by Dr S Meenakshi, Director-Academics after the ceremonial lighting of the Kuthuvillaku by the members of Sri Venugopal’s family.

In his welcome address Dr K.S.Vasan, MD paid glowing tributes to Shri V Venugopal, as a far sighted man who strived to build an ophthalmic institution to serve the haves and the have-nots. He also paid rich accolades to the Chief Guest Sri S Swaminathan, Director AskTenali.com as an enterprising man who transformed the lives and careers of many working professionals through his powerful corporate trainer ship programs. Welcoming Sri Nandlal Pokhardas, Guest of Honour, Dr. Vasan said, Sankara Nethralaya was proud to have an Educationist, aptly, to distribute the Dhingra Trust scholarship awards.

Introducing Sri Swaminathan, CEO, AskTenali.com Dr T S Surendran, Vice Chairman, quoted that the topic “Saptapadi – 7 steps to life”, both traditionally and practically were most relevant for the modern day world to keep a balance beteen work and home. He heaped praises on Shri Nandlal Pokhardas, a Sindhi Ratna Awardee, as a most successful entrepreneur, philanthropist and academician, who inspired young minds of the nation.

The Chief Guest of the day, Shri Swaminathan, in his fascinating address on “Saptapadi – 7 steps to work life balance”, brought out several nuances on how work should be passionately done and never be obsessed with it. He presented categories of “Sole Time”, “Maintenance time” and “Discretionary time”, to dream, work towards a goal, grow, prioritize and organise ourselves for a happy healthy living.

Speaking about the Dhingra Family Trust award and the recipients, Ms. Sudha Mohan, Senior Manager, HR Department quoted that Sankara Nethralaya saluted the vision of Shri Ram Dhingra and his Family to create a corpus fund and distribute the proceeds accrued each year to deserving children of employees for pursuing higher education.

Distributing the scholarships, Sri Nandlal Pokhardas, Chairman, President of Sindhi Educational Society, remarked he felt honoured and happy to be part of the great institution.

The day concluded with an emotional vote of thanks by Shri Govind, Board Member, Medical Research Foundation and grandson of Shri V Venugopal.

The Ocular Trauma Society – India, conducted its IX Annual Meet at Sri Sankaradeva Nethralaya, Guwahati, Assam on the 31st of October and 1st November 2015, to update and advance ophthalmic knowledge in Ocular Trauma, the meet witnessed the participation of delegates consisting of leading Consultant Ophthalmologists, Facio-Maxillary Surgeons, Plastic Surgeons, Radiologists and Neurologists along with Residents and Fellows from across India and abroad. A video presentation by Dr Kirthi Koka, Senior Resident, Department of Orbit, Oculoplasty, Reconstructive and Aesthetics,Sankara Nethralaya was adjudged as the ‘Best Video’ he was also chosen as the ‘Best Presenter’ in the ‘Challenging Cases’ category. Dr. Mohomed Shahid Alam, Associate Consultant from the same department was adjudged as the ‘Best Speaker’ in the ‘Free Paper’ session conducted at the venue.
