Sankara Nethralaya’s Microbiologists ‘Arise’ to the occasion and make a mark with their in-depth presentations at high level clinical microbiology meet.

A national level conference in clinical Microbiology titled ARISE – 2015 (Advanced Research in Medical Science) was conducted on the 28th and 29th of September 2015, jointly by the SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Centre and the Indian Association of Medical Microbiologists (IAMM), Tamil Nadu local Chapter.

Ms M.K.Janani’s (Ph.D Scholar and Senior Research Fellow, L&T Microbiology Research Centre, Kamalnayan Bajaj Institute for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, Sankara Nethralaya) Poster highlighting the risk of ‘Epstein Barr Virus’ (EBV) and Viral proteins infecting the retinal cells leading to acute ‘Retinal Necrosis’ titled  “Novel Immune Regulatory Pathway Associated with Epstein Barr Virus (EBV) and the Recombinant EBV Protein Mediated Inflammation in Retinal Pigment Epithelium(ARPE-19)” was awarded the First Prize and Ms M.Vimalin Jeyalatha’s (Ph.D Scholar and Senior Research Fellow L&T Microbiology Research Centre, Kamalnayan Bajaj Institute for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, Sankara Nethralaya) Poster throwing new light on how patients suffering from Leptospirosis are prone to their retina being infected by Spirochete Leptospira, leading to ‘Retinitis’ titled ‘Response of Pigment Epithelial Cells towards Leptospiral recurrent Uveitis Antigens’ was awarded the Second Prize in the Poster session.

Dr J.Malathi, Associate Professor, L&T Microbiology Research Centre delivered an in-depth talk on ‘Next Generation Sequencing in Diagnosis and Research’ which was received very well by the August audience.
