The Sankara Nethralaya Academy (TSNA is a forerunner and leader in the area of imparting healthcare and health management technology and draws its strength from its parent organizations, Sankara Nethralaya, the Medical Research Foundation, Chennai.
TSNA commenced academic sessions for the academic year 2014-15 for BSc Medical Laboratory Technology, Diploma in Ophthalmic Nursing Assistant, Diploma in Operation Theatre and Anaesthesia Technology and Diploma in Refraction & Dispensing on 6th August 2014. Around 40 new students attended the inaugural session along with their parents from all over Tamil Nadu and even from north India.
The program commenced with an invocation song by Ms.Ashwini and welcome note and introduction of the guests of honour by Dr.Anuja R Singh, Head of Optometry,
Speaking on the occasion Mrs.Akila Ganesan, Senior General Manager – Sankara Nethralaya, and Registrar TSNA stressed the need for higher confidence levels among the students. She advised the students to avail the valuable services rendered by the TSNA for better learning and ensuring their respectable employment, she highlighted the bright career and growth opportunities in the healthcare sector and underlined the need for effective time utilization for greater academic growth.
Dr.HN Madhavan, Director & Prof. of Microbiology, Vision Research Foundation elaborated the need for quality and focus on the job in hand especially since patients get treatment based on the laboratory results. He advised the students to aspire for challenging positions in medical laboratories.
Mrs.Jerina, Nursing Superintendent explained the salient features of nursing profession and their growth avenues. She also explained the importance of nursing in healthcare services and its increasing global demand.
Prof.S Ramani, Principal, TSNA, explained the growth opportunities as well as the competitive scenario and advised the students to win the competition by making a difference. He insisted on hard work and foregoing some comforts for their better future. He advised them to make learning a lifelong habit, while becoming strong in communication especially in English.
The genesis and milestones of Sankara Nethralaya and TSNA were detailed by Mr. A Mahalingam, Assistant Registrar, TSNA when he presented a virtual tour of both the institutions functioning under the visionary leadership of Dr. SS Badrinath – The Founder – The Sankara Nethralaya Academy and Chairman Emeritus – Sankara Nethralaya.
The academic features of the different courses being offered were elaborated by the concerned faculty of Dr.Anuja R Singh, Dr. Vandana and Prof. Hannah Priya while Mrs.CG Sreedevi explained the student rules and regulations. The program ended with a vote of thanks by Mr. G Senthilkumar, Assistant Professor and Faculty member handling Management.
At the end of the program, students and more so their parents got a better insight into the new courses which they have joined and also gained confidence on the institution in moulding the students into responsible professionals in healthcare services.
