The tenets of democracy were recalled by the former Chief Election Commissioner, Shri. TS Krishnamurthy, at the 62nd Republic day celebrations at Sankara Nethralaya on January 26, 2011.
Describing democracy as an “intellectually provocative and emotionally attractive” concept and one which strives to provide “maximum happiness to maximum people,” chief guest Shri. Krishnamurthy said it was important for people to nurture a good democracy and exercise their franchise to elect good representatives.
Shri. Krishnamurthy complimented Sankara Nethralaya on its “excellent and wonderful work,” and said the institution would grow in strength from year to year.Tamil scholar and poet Dr.K.Ramamurthi spoke about the work of poet Subramania Bharathi. Service awards for employees and merit award for employees’ children were given on the occasion.
