Utkal-Sankara Nethralaya eye camp

The Utkal Association, a cultural and social service forum of Oriyas in Chennai, in association with Sankara Nethralaya organised an eye camp for indigent patients and employees of Raj Bhavan on March 21, 2010.

A team from the Elite School of Optometry, a unit of Medical Research Foundation, managed the camp. 137 people were given glasses free-of-cost and 37 people were referred for other ocular pathologies including cataract and glaucoma.

The camp was launched at the Raj Bhavan Durbar Hall by Tamil Nadu Governor Shri. Surjit Singh Barnala. Dr.S.S.Badrinath, Chairman Emeritus, Sankara Nethralaya, Mr. S.Velumani, Chairman and Managing Director, Ennore Port Ltd; Mr. K.K.Jena, President, Utkal Association of Madras and Mr. Ramsehram Mishra, I.A.S., Principal Secretary to Governor were also present on the occasion.

Twenty-four Optometrists conducted the screening under the supervision of Dr. R Krishnakumar, Principal, Elite School of optometry and Mr. Viswanath, Director, Optometry and Optical Services, Sankara Nethralaya.
