‘Seva award’ for Surekha Mehta

On the occasion of Mahaveer Jayanthi this year, the ladies wing of Jain Maha Sangh awarded Ms. Surekha Mehta, SWAN trustee, with the “Seva Award” for the selfless services rendered to Sankara Nethralaya. The award was presented on March 19, 2010.

Associated with Sankara Nethralaya since 1979, Ms. Surekha Mehta, as a SWAN volunteer, has been assisting the ophthalmic hospital in its day-to-day activities — dilating the patients’ eyes, overseeing a number of schemes for indigent patients including providing free food — as well as organizing conferences, events, raising funds for Sankara Nethralaya etc.

The Jain Maha Sangh also applauded Ms. Mehta’s philanthropic contributions at Banaskantha district of Gujarat, where she taught adivasi children, provided them with books, and urged villagers and teachers to propagate women’s education.
