Two journalists namely Ms. Hong Ki Lam, Reporter for International news, Ming Pao Daily and Ms. Hung Suet Yee Zoe, Senior Reporter, Hong Kong Economic Times from Hong kong were invited by the Government of India for a tour of the country and as a part of their tour they visited Sankara Nethralaya on 26.09.2008. His Excellency Lyonpo Zangley Dukpa, Minister for Health, Royal Government of Bhutan, Dr Ngawang Tenzin, Medical Director, Jigme Dorji Wangchuck National Referral Hospital, Thimphu and Mr Sonam Dorji, Chief Planning Officer, Ministry of Health, Royal Government of Bhutan graced Sankara Nethralaya on 12.09.2008 with their visit.

On 06.09.08 at 10.30 am. Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Dr. Kalaignar M Karunanidhi inaugurated the new building “Kamalnayan Bajaj Institute for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology”. The function was well attended. Honourable Chief Minister, Mr. Homi Bhabha, Mr. Niraj Bajaj and Mr. Rangaswamy, L & T, offered their felicitations.

In the evening, the 30th Anniversary celebrations started, during which Dr M K Mani, Mr. Homi bhabha, Mrs. Y G Parthasarathy and Mr. S P Muthuraman felicitated the institution. There was a play by Mr. Y G Mahendra and his troupe which was also well attended and enjoyed.
